SMPTE RP 177 – Derivation of Basic Television Color Equations
This practice is intended to define the numerical procedures forderiving basic color equations for color television and othersystems using additive display devices. These equations are firstthe normalized reference primary matrix which defines therelationship between RGB signals and CIE tristimulus values XYZ;then the system luminance equation; and finally the color primarytransformation matrix for transforming signals from one set ofreference primaries to another set of reference primaries or to aset of display primaries.
